Pivotal Cloud Foundry 101

Hello everyone, join us for our next event on the 5th of October! We are pleased to have Sufyaan Kazi (https://twitter.com/sufyaan_kazi) and Martin McVay (https://twitter.com/mmcvaytech)(TBC) from Pivotal (https://twitter.com/pivotal) here in Manchester, who will offer us a hands on session on Pivotal Cloud Foundry. If possible, bring your laptops along to get the most out of it.

The session

We will demo deploying an application to Cloud Foundry and walk through its architecture and behind the scenes. Then, participants will be invited to create user IDs to log onto the public Cloud Foundry instance, clone a sample Java Application from Github, deploy it to Cloud Foundry and connect it to the application we will have pushed in the demo.

Finally, time permitting, we will walk through connecting apps using alternative mechanisms such as a Discovery Server, as well as integrating a CI/CD pipeline with Cloud Foundry.

The speakers

Sufyaan leads the Pre-Sales team for Pivotal in the UK and Ireland. He has previously worked as a code monkey, an architect and peacekeeper at IBM and Accenture, Wily Technologies as well as other consultancies in the APM and ECM spaces. He is a keen promoter of Pivotal Cloud Foundry and passionate about PaaS.

Martin(TBC) is a member of the Pre-Sales team at Pivotal working as a Platform Architect. He started his career back in 1999 as a Java developer at a dot-com. Since then he moved into consultancy and specialised in architecting and implementing systems for investment banks, primarily within the risk and regulatory reporting space. He is passionate about the Spring framework and enjoys informing the world about how good Pivotal Cloud Foundry is, and how Spring Boot allows teams to rapidly develop applications for the cloud.
