What we’re about

The International Society for the Promotion of Permanent & Universal Peace (Short version of the full name/nickname is: The International Peace Society. Acronym: IPS).
The IPS is an inclusive and ethical Society created in the UK in Manchester, the 'City of Peace' to further Domestic & International Peace Initiatives. The 21st Century opening of this was inspired by the original International Society for the Promotion of Permanent & Universal Peace (London Peace Society, International Peace Society) which was very active in peace efforts throughout the 1800s. You can google the original IPS for more information! Unfortunately the original IPS was made defunct in the 20th Century, but we are bringing it back now to suit the 21st Century. The founding date of the 21st Century version of the IPS was the 17/10/2024.

Did you know Manchester has a long history of Peace Initiatives & was in fact the first city in the UK to ban nuclear weapons in the 1980s?

At the moment the IPS is just a Meetup Group and an online peace blog is coming soon, please see the website to subscribe for updates on the new peace blog: https://internationalpeacesociety.org.uk/

We would absolutely love for the IPS to become a registered charity in future, however at the present moment the IPS is just a Meetup Group and an online blog which is coming soon. We also have a Facebook page which you can view here if you would like: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61567683530449

For any email queries please contact: cindy.baxter@internationalpeacesociety.org.uk

If anyone has some expertise in peace and conflicts or would like to be a part of the new peace blog by sharing your personal experiences through writing please contact cindy.baxter@internationalpeacesociety.org.uk. We are looking for people to contribute to our new peace blog. Please do be aware Cindy is very busy and may not be able to respond to you immediately but will endeavour to respond to you as soon as she can.

This Meetup group is for Peace related events for example, free Peace Walks through Manchester City Centre, Peace writing & Peace writing competitions, general meetups for people from different cultures & backgrounds to get together and chat about peace or other things. Potentially we will visit Peace related activities e.g. local peace exhibits in museums or cultural peace events such as Vesak (Buddhist celebration) etc. We might even take occasional day trips outside of Manchester - for example to visit the Peace Museum in Bradford, or Peace Crane origami making workshops, craftivism, calm painting nights, Peace themed movie nights, visiting some of the Peace gardens in Manchester, Peace Conferences, etc.

If you're interested in all things Peace related, you've come to the right Meetup group!

This will be an inclusive space & people of all backgrounds & religions are welcome, the founder of the group is agnostic - so atheists & agnostics are also welcome. We are non-denominational meaning that the 21st Century version of the IPS is not founded on any particular religion, the original IPS had a heavy Quaker influence in terms of religion. People from all religions, or no religion and all backgrounds and nationalities are welcome. The founder is also a woman, we emphasise appreciating people's differences and learning from each other. Everyone is welcome, however we do ask that everyone respects each other, treats others with kindness and any abusive, aggressive behaviour or any other behaviour deemed to be dangerous or harmful will not be tolerated and you may be asked to leave the group if you do not stop after being asked. This needs to be a safe space.

The point of the group is to promote peace, harmony and understanding between people of differing Nations & being able to interact with people from different beliefs & backgrounds.

Please join as a member if you're interested in more Peace, including inner Peace!

Members of this group are nicknamed Peace Makers!

There are no member dues or fees in this group. You will not be charged attendance at meetups or asked for money or donations.
