Rally for Real Democracy

Details

The 2024 election saw millions of people left without a voice in Parliament. Six in 10 people are now represented by an MP they did not vote for. The 2025 local elections reinforced what we already know: our democracy is broken.

On the weekend 4-6 July 2025 - one year since the most disproportional general election in British history - people across the country will take action for real democracy.

In Manchester, we're holding a rally in St Peter's Square on Saturday 5th July, across from the statue of suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst. There will be inspiring speakers, joyful entertainment, and hopefully sunshine as we follow the footsteps of 200 years of citizens gathering to demand for their vote to count and their voice to be heard!

We demand:

  • No more First Past the Post elections.
  • A proportional system where seats match votes.

Logistics
When: Saturday 5th July at 1pm
Where: near the Central Library in St Peter's Square, Manchester (M2 3AA)

There will be a few speakers and entertainment, as well as an educational stall to learn more about proportional representation (PR) and how the fight for PR is progressing to Parliament.

Afterwards, there will be networking in a nearby cafe. All welcome!

There will be more details of speakers and timings to follow in the next few weeks. Please sign up to the event below to stay up to date.
