My journey from Tech Lead to Head of Architecture
Department Bonded Warehouse, 18 Lower Byrom Street, Manchester, GBAdam Houldsworth: My journey from Tech Lead to Head of Architecture
Over the course of my career, I’ve moved from Junior Developer to Head of Architecture. Along the way I've learnt lessons, picked up scars, and managed a few wins. In this talk, I’ll share what that journey actually looked like: the moments that felt like progress, the ones that didn’t, and the realities of the roles in between that rarely make it into job descriptions.
I’ll also share where I find myself now: at a career roundabout with real choices ahead: pushing further into leadership, stepping back toward engineering, or staying at the same level with a different focus. This talk is for anyone navigating growth in tech and wondering which paths are “allowed”, sustainable, or even desirable.
