Jamie Woodward is Professor of Physical Geography at the University of Manchester and a leading geomorphologist and geoarchaeologist. His research examines Quaternary environmental change with a particular focus on river systems in the Mediterranean and Nile basins, and on how people and landscapes interact over long timescales. Woodward’s fieldwork ranges from the Nile Valley to British rivers, and he has contributed to debates on microplastics and Anthropocene rivers. He is the author of The Ice Age: A Very Short Introduction (Oxford University Press), a succinct guide to the dynamics of the last ice age and its legacies. Recent projects include work revealing ancient hydraulic engineering along the Nile.
