Abstract:
Governance is exercised both individually and corporately, and across all sectors of society. Effective governance requires an understanding of how power operates, where privilege lies, and what methods of accountability provide appropriate checks and balances without overly inhibiting decision making. This paper is a personal reflection on 40 years of participation in governance bodies from local charities to multi-billion pound endowments and from private companies to Parliament.
