Jim O’Neill is a British economist and crossbench peer best known for coining “BRIC” while at Goldman Sachs. He served as Commercial Secretary to the Treasury (2015–2016) and has advised UK governments on science, innovation and regional growth. From 2014 to 2016 he chaired the global Review on Antimicrobial Resistance, commissioned by the UK Prime Minister and supported by the Wellcome Trust, producing landmark recommendations on funding, diagnostics and stewardship that continue to shape policy worldwide. O’Neill holds a PhD in economics and multiple honorary degrees, and remains an influential voice on global economics and health.
