Train based walk
Leader: Imelda
Difficulty: Moderate
Distance: 14.5km / 9.0mi
Ascent: 688.8m / 2260ft
Type: circular

This Todmorden trail recalls one of my first walks in this area featuring the history of Dobroyd castle, great views and lots of variety climbing , descending, climbing and dropping down again. There is 2206 feet / 689m of ascent/ descent making this moderate to strenuous in parts. The final part of the walk may change if conditions underfoot become wetter or the walk may just become a shorter walk.
Our route undulates through woodlands, fields, moors and alongside the rushing water of Gorpley Clough. We pass through someone’s garden on a narrow path so need to take care. Our walk includes road crossings and a small amount of road walking. There are a number of stiles (approx 6), also there are bridges across both water and railway lines, and sections of the walk feature steps. It can be very slippy underfoot in some sections. There is mud! Boots are strongly advised. Trainers will not keep you safe going downhill on muddy slopes.
