Godley Circular (Longer) - led walk
Details
Train based walk
Leader: Jim M
Difficulty: Moderate
Distance: 16.1km / 10.0mi
Ascent: 518.2m / 1700ft
Type: circular
This is a fascinating walk, with beautiful views, and lots of interesting things to see on the way. There are tales of battles, boggarts, resurrectionists, an artist and the Salt Road (not path!).
Starting and Finishing at Godley station, we'll head up towards Matley, and then to Mottram Church via Roe Cross (avoiding the road works).
We'll then skirt Broadbottom and drop down to the Etherow Valley, ancient boundary between Cheshire's teapot handle and the wild lands of Derbyshire, before returning over Werneth Low, and back down ghostly Green Lane to Godley.
Some can proceed to Godley station. Others can sample the real ales, Cuban vibe at the Sportsman, and meet up with people from the shorter walk. ¡Viva la Revolución! ;-)
Meet Point: Near the ticket barriers, or on the platform at Piccadilly Station. Alternatively, meet the group on the train, or at the Walk Start at Godley Station.
Transport to Walk Start: 09:33 train from Manchester Piccadilly to Godley.

Extra: Due to the time of year and an exceptionally wet year so far, this walk, like many others, is muddier than normal. Optional drinks at the end of the walk (Sportsman, Hyde). Please do not bring your dog (apart from assistance dogs).
