Train based walk
Leader: ImeldaC
Difficulty: Strenuous
Distance: 17.7km / 11.0mi
Ascent: 604m / 1982ft
Type: circular

This 11 miles circular walk from Marsden involves 3 ascents and descents, so is very much classed as "undulating" with 600m ascent. It is strenuous (with possible mild peril if we cross a stream- but there is an alternative route)and some very narrow paths by edges as we climb up Pule Hill from the quarry after visiting the Stanza Poetry Stone. Our route is very varied with fantastic views of Marsden as we walk. There are narrow paths through trees, as well as long wide open stretches over the moors. We use tarmac roads and paths, over moorland, through woodland, along grassy trails and canal side tracks. I saw lots of lambs, bluebells and flowers which I hope are still there to see.
There are some narrow paths by steep inclines, especially through the woodland above Butterley reservoir. Also, there was mud and some slippy downhill sections.
We climb over 6 stiles and cross footbridges and boardwalks, or stones, where there are boggy patches. The A62 is crossed twice. There are no safe crossing points in place, so care will be needed although visibility is good.
Any changes will be explained in my introduction on the day of the walk.
