What we’re about

Eat The Food That Loves You Back!

I reside in Mandeville, LA and have been in search of a group for people that are in pursuit of great tasting healthy food that want to share their passion for the food we love. New Orleans is arguably THE epicenter of diversified food options from the long standing traditional Cajun and Creole dishes, the muffuletta, and the sweet treats like beignets, king cake, snowballs, and bread pudding. There is a time and place to enjoy and appreciate all of these and many other local favorites, but what about the food we love and appreciate on a daily basis as a means of maintaining healthy minds and nourished bodies, yet still satisfying the soul?

The Greater New Orleans Area has an abundance of fresh and local fruits, vegetables, meat, seafood, nuts, etc. at local stores, co-ops, farmer’s markets, roadside stands, farms, festivals, and the tremendous local restaurants that chefs exclusively go out of their way to procure these ingredients to use in their dishes. New Orleans in the top echelon of the food world for a reason. This group is designed to allow people in the Greater New Orleans Area to meet up online bi-weekly in an open, safe, and welcoming zoom forum to share and discuss the food that we love, cook, and eat on a daily basis. Whatever you do to maintain a healthy lifestyle, nutrition is inevitably part of that. Whether it’s meat or plants, low carb or low sugar, we all have to eat. In my opinion, the more creative I can be in the kitchen or on the grill, the more I want to cook. The creative possibilities are endless, which is what inspires my passion for food. The world class chefs in our area create mind blowing dishes with local ingredients everyday, why don’t more of us do this at home every chance you get? Sometimes it just takes a couple small changes or adjustments to elevate a dish to a healthy level.

This group could easily evolve depending on level of interest. There will not be any fees for membership to begin with and we will mainly focus on “Eating the food that loves you back”. This will include discussing favorite places within an hour or so of NOLA where we can buy and eat healthy, fresh, and local food. Everyone is welcome for the online meet up group and we will have a pre-planned format that will last about 60-90 minutes and will include host introduction (and other members depending on how many there are), specific topic(s) to explore that will change every meet up, a review of recent visits to farmer’s markets, restaurants, stores, etc., or a look forward to upcoming local events, sharing recipes, maybe even some cooking demos online or in person depending on group interest, potluck dinners, and an open Q&A forum throughout. Obviously it will be easier to attend local events if you live in the area, but again, all are welcome.
