What we’re about

Are you “Waiting to Exhale?”  Then, “When All Hell Breaks Loose”, perform a “Disappearing Act” and “Get Your Groove Back” with other sistahs who share your love of reading.

Have you found yourself finishing a book you loved and want to share it with someone?

Do you need a group of sistahs who support you and want to listen to you?

Are you looking for a friendly forum to discuss books and social issues?

You want to broaden your literary experience by being introduced to books you wouldn’t necessarily read on your own.

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then maybe it is time you joined a book club.

Many Shades of Brown book club is open to sistahs of all races who not only enjoy and appreciate literature, but also understand its value and importance to our Community. We will meet once a month, to socialize (drink and dine) and discuss our monthly selection.  Please be aware that we primarily read books by African-American authors and/or African-American subject matter, but we are open to suggestions to read any book that is suggested by our members.

GROUP POLICIES-

#1 - Book discussion meetings are normally scheduled the 3rd Saturday of every month with the exception of November.  The organizers use this month to work on plans for the upcoming year. Our group's decision of not meeting in November is also another way we show compassion for members by not intruding on your Thanksgiving planning time.

#2 - NO SHOWS!!  3 No Shows will result in your membership being removed from the group.  No Shows are no fun and are totally disrespectful to the organizer and other members.  They are also extremely disappointing when trying to make reservations.  There will be no refunds if you are removed due to no shows.

#3 - It's OK if you don't finish the book. Come anyway. Not everyone can finish every book, but you may still have valuable insights into the parts you did read.

#4 - Please be mindful of your RSVP and change your RSVP in a timely manner, preferably within 24 hours of the meet up.  This allows the organizers to get an accurate head count in order to confirm reservations.  Any change in your RSVP after 10:00 am the day of the meeting will be considered a NO SHOW!   Also, sending an email will not substitute for changing your RSVP.  It will still be considered a NO SHOW.

#5 - In an effort to assist with covering the cost of keeping this Meetup group alive, there is a small non-refundable membership due of $5.00 per year.  Dues automatically renew every year but can be paid in person at the meetup for those who are not comfortable with paying online or don't like automatic renewals.
