In this fast moving world of technology the whole world is just one mouse click away. The world has been mapped in so many different ways and the digital offer of maps, satellite images and geo-information is incredible!

What more can be so relaxing as taking a good book, sit back and explore the world from a comfortable armchair? This evening we will step out of the digital world and have a look at 3 newly printed atlases. Noordhoff will present the new atlas van de Veiligheid, Maarten Boddaert the new World Atlas Alcarta and Jean Klare will present the Atlas van de belevingswereld. Of course, nowadays even analogue atlases can't go without a digital interface any more. Both atlases have a digital part which we will explore so: Don't forget to bring you laptop to this Meetup! There will be some drinks and snacks provided by Webmapper, CARTO and Ruimteschepper.

Noordhoff Bosatlas | Otto Venema & Tjeerd Tichelaar

Otto Venema , Publisher Bosatlas at Noordhoff uitgevers, will present the Bosatlas van de Veiligheid. This thematic atlas was recently published, November 2017. Next to atlases for educational purposes, Noordhoff also published atlases for a broader public, like the Bosatlas van Energie, Voedsel and now Veiligheid. Have a look > http://bit.ly/2mIKHNC
After this Tjeerd Tichelaar, cartographer at Noordhof will elaborate on the cartographic challenges he faces at Noordhoff. > http://bit.ly/2ERlHey

The new World Atlas Alcarta | Maarten Boddaert

On November 10, 2017 the new digital atlas was launched on the KNAG Onderwijsdag, a big event for Geography Teachers. For many decades Dutch schools are dominated by one school atlas: De grote Bosatlas. \But in 2012 Maarten Boddaert from Boddaert Geoproducties started to develop another school atlas for secondary education: Alcarta. The paper version is expected in spring 2018, after approval of CvTE.
On this evening Maarten Boddaert will show the digital atlas including the connection to StreetView and Google EarthTM. Maarten Boddaert is geographer and cartographer and works for more than 20 years in the publishing industry, since 2012 as self-employed entrepreneur.

Atlas van de Belevingswereld | Jean Klare

The world is a complicated place. From the beginning of history, man has surveyed his environment and divided it into areas. He placed his surroundings under his control by giving it names: what place is comfortable, where is it dangerous, where do we find food and in which places are we the food ourselves? Subsequently we recorded our influence in representations: maps.
All people struggling to maintain their bearings need maps. This is also true for managers and professionals in all disciplines, a clear overview on complex and ever changing circumstances is desirable and often necessary. A common vocabulary to share that vision with others is essential. That is why my work is relevant wherever groups of people have conversations about complex situations, subjects or transitions. Everywhere companies and organizations need roadmaps, I can be of service because I chart everything…
