Join us July 20th as we get a tour of one of the largest map collections in the US! Says so on the library's website (https://www.lapl.org/collections-resources/research-guides/map-collection).

We'll venture down to an awesome reference desk below 5th street to meet with Glen Creason!! LA's map librarian! Author of "Los Angeles in Maps," (https://www.amazon.com/Los-Angeles-Maps-Glen-Creason/dp/0847833917/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468437704&sr=8-1&keywords=los+angeles+in+maps) he'll take us on a journey of the amazing maps of how our little pueblo became the metropolis that it is.

Before the tour we'll chow on pizza and hack on any OpenStreetMap project of your choosing. You can add businesses or trees or other points of interest to your neighborhood or help out on any of these projects (https://github.com/socal-osm).

Back in 2012 the library came across a bounty of cartographic treasures (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2012/10/treasure-trove-of-maps-headed-to-la-public-library.html). We'll see where they're at and if they found the map to Atlantis.

Please be there between 6 and 6:30. Head to the bottom of the Bradley Wing, LL 4 in the History and Genealogy Department. We'll start the tour at 6:30. The library closes at 8, so those who want to linger around can join us for a round of GEObeers at the local bars!

If you're taking Metro, exit at Pershing Square and walk 2.5 blocks northwest on 5th Street.

If you're driving, park at the 524 South Flower Street garage. Parking is only a buck if you've got a library card. More info here (https://www.lapl.org/branches/central-library/parking).

If you're bikesharing, there's a station right in front (https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/4301447959). (thanks, Tim)
