Deep Dive Zoom: Patriotism vs Nationalism

We Americans will be "celebrating" the 4th of July with flags, parades, fireworks and picnics. I put celebrating in quotes because for many of us, we don't find much to be proud of or patriotic about these days. And making it more challenging is how the MAGA movement has seemingly taken over what it means to be patriotic and what the flag even stands for. Many of us no longer put a flag out because our neighbors might think we are a "Trumper".
Patriotism and Nationalism are actually two vastly different identities. It seems that what most on the political Right are would be better defined as Nationalism, and more accurately, Christian Nationalism.
It was encouraging to see at the recent "No Kings" protest/rally many participants waving the flag - reclaiming what it means to be a patriot.
