• Marin Vegan Book Club

    Open Secret Bookstore

We're almost finished with "White Like Me," by Tim Wise - "an examination of the way in which racial privilege shapes the daily lives of white Americans in every realm: employment, education, housing, criminal justice, and elsewhere." This book is somewhat of a departure from our usual animal/vegan subject matter, but we felt it was related through the Circles of Compassion we had read about in a previous book. And the subject matter of this book is certainly timely in view of recent events. For this meeting we'll read two chapters: Chapter 7 - Home and Away, and Chapter 8 - Chocolate Pain, Vanilla Indignation. If you want to make the commitment to read this book and you've read the chapters, we'd love to have you join us. Our book club meets on the first and third Mondays of each month. It is important that everyone attending the meetup: • Read the assigned chapters and come prepared to discuss them. Also, be sure you've read all the prior chapters. • Arrive on time and stay until the meeting ends. • Bring your book to the meeting. The meeting will be held at the Open Secret Bookstore. At the present time, there is no food for sale there. If you bring food with you, please be sure not to leave anything behind. As with all Marin Vegan Events, any food brought to the meetup table must be completely vegan. Karen

  • Speak Out for the Cows!

    Sonoma County

This September, join us to show your love for cows and encourage people who truly love animals to go vegan! Please, join Food Empowerment Project as we speak out for cows raised for dairy. F.E.P. is located in Sonoma County where people see cows on green fields, and they never really know the anguish the mother cows feel at having their babies taken away at birth or understand the frustration of the female calves who are held captive in crates. Our goal is to help commuters who drive by these cows understand the underlying cruelty of the dairy industry. By being a consistent presence in the community, we will be able to provide a counter to the very heavy pro-dairy marketing in the area. We will provide signs and literature. At our last event, the sprinklers were turned on, spraying us with manure water. Please be prepared by bringing your rain gear, such as hat, raincoat, and umbrella. We encourage you to bring a change of clothes to change into after the event and your reusable water bottle. ***If you would like to attend this event, you must RSVP by emailing us at info(at)foodispower.org for details and directions.*** For more information on this and other Food Empowerment Project campaigns, please like us on Facebook and visit www.FoodIsPower.org to sign up for our newsletter. Thank you for your support, we hope to see you there!

A bag of chips or some cut fruit is NOT ACCEPTABLE and you will not be admitted this year. People put a lot of money, time, and effort into their Thanksgiving meal they are sharing, it's not fair if others don't. After our meal, we will be showing the film A Prayer for Compassion. This powerful film documents the filmmaker's journey through many different faiths and their connection to compassion and veganism. For many years, Compassionate Living and UPC have taken a loss on this event paying for the cost of the venue and extra food/drinks. We appreciate your donation this year to help cover costs of this event, our Sonoma County VegFest and all that we do year round. Let's give thanks for our chosen compassionate family and friends. Hope to see you there! More information, contact Hope- [masked][masked]
