Join Marion Audubon’s Steven and Darcy Shaddix on an adventure to the Halpata Tastanaki Preserve! We will meet at the Main Entrance Parking Lot off 484 (15430 SW CR 484, Dunnellon, FL) at 7:00 AM.

The majority of bird species are found along the entrance road, and they are most active at sunrise. We will start by walking the first trail, then continue along the entrance road to the locked gates (no more than a mile).

Then we will get in our vehicles and drive through the locked gates at Halpata Preserve. We are strictly limited to 6 total vehicles, so 5 participant vehicles will be allowed to drive during this event, so carpooling will be required.

All vehicles driving into Halpata Tastanaki Preserve must be All Wheel Drive or Four Wheel Drive due to recently added fire roads that are deep, soft sand. Vehicles without this capability will not be permitted to enter the preserve.

Once we are through the locked gates, the group must stay together and depart together; we should conclude between 2-3 PM at the latest. Bring lunch, and we will stop along the Withlocochee River.
