Join Marion Audubon’s President, Max Weakley, on a search for Snail Kites at Heagy Burry Park as we continue the Global Big Day! This day, the first Saturday of May, is when birders from around the world try to find as many species as possible within a 24-hour period.

Heagy Burry Park is an excellent place to try to find Snail Kites in Marion County. While these raptors have become increasingly common throughout Central Florida, this particular spot has been a historic stronghold for them.

We will meet at Heagy Burry Park (5040 NW 191st Pl, Orange Lake, FL 32681), located between Georgie's Lakeside Restaurant and Eagles Nest Bar and Grill on the SW side of Orange Lake.

Bring binoculars and a camera if you have them. We will have extra binoculars to lend for the walk. Please wear long pants and comfortable shoes. Additionally, bring bug spray, as we will be near shallow freshwater.

Please keep in mind that all times for these events are flexible, depending on the activity and sightings at the previous location. If we are running early or late, we will post updates to the comments of this MeetUp listing.

This is a FREE PUBLIC event, so bring a friend! You can join or renew your membership with the Marion Audubon Society on our website to access this or other future events.
