Join Marion Audubon’s President, Max Weakley, on a search for migratory birds at Marjorie A. Hoy Memorial Park at Orange Lake Overlook as we continue the Global Big Day! This day, the first Saturday of May, is when birders from around the world try to find as many species as possible within a 24-hour period.

Marjorie A. Hoy Memorial Park at Orange Lake Overlook is an amazing location for numerous migratory species. Some of these include warblers, tanagers, swallows, orioles, raptors, cuckoos, and many more. This area holds a lot of potential for us to increase our day’s total and houses Purple Martin nesting gourdes, which should provide excellent views of these birds feeding in the area.

We will meet at Marjorie A. Hoy Memorial Park at Orange Lake Overlook (19865 N US Hwy 441, Micanopy, FL 32667) on the east side of 441.

Bring binoculars and a camera if you have them. We will have extra binoculars to lend for the walk. Please wear long pants, comfortable shoes, and bug spray, as we will be walking on trails surrounded by tall grass and vegetation.

Please keep in mind that all times for these events are flexible, depending on the activity and sightings at the previous location. If we are running early or late, we will post updates to the comments of this MeetUp listing.

This is a FREE PUBLIC event, so bring a friend! You can join or renew your membership with the Marion Audubon Society on our website to access this or other future events.
