MAS Purple Martin Nest Gourd Cleanup & Walk at Orange Lake Overlook
Details
Join Marion Audubon's Tami Reece to help freshen up our Purple Martin nest gourds at Marjorie A. Hoy Memorial Park at Orange Lake Overlook! This is vital to keeping the nest gourds clean and ready for their spring return.
We'll meet near the main building at the front of the park (19865 US-441, Micanopy, FL 32667) at 8:00 AM. We'll start by cleaning the nest gourds, then go on a birding walk once we've finished.
We'll use a bleach solution to kill anything that's been growing in the gourds, so please bring clothes you don't mind staining and rubber gloves to protect your hands. We'll provide all cleaning supplies, but we strongly recommend you bring gloves, as we will not have them available.
For our walk afterward, bring binoculars and a camera if you have them. We may have extra binoculars to lend. Also bring a hat, water, bug spray, and sunscreen if you need it. This location is fairly sunny and exposed near the top of the hill and buggy at the bottom, but this provides a nice variety of birds.
