When you think about leading marketing, do your thoughts turn to the team that is to be ‘led’? It feels natural to do so, and yet the paradox of leadership is that it starts with ourselves. Leading ourselves is hardest of all, and yet experience and evidence shows that this is where great leadership starts. Modelling the behaviours we wish to see, changing culture from the top, and creating psychological safety by showing our own vulnerability. In short, leaders create the environment needed for others to succeed, and start with themselves.

In this event, we’ll be sharing our knowledge and experience around leading with self awareness. With three expert panellists to enrich our discussion with their own insights and experience, we’ll explore topics such as:

* Sources of feedback
* Emotions and self control
* Confidence and assertiveness
* Trusting yourself, and others
* Agile and styles of leadership

Marketing leaders have a lot of plates to spin! Amidst what can feel like a frenetic atmosphere in a busy marketing department, how do we find the time, and the calm, to work first on ourselves?

**Andrea Fryrear:**
Andrea Fryrear is CEO and co-founder of AgileSherpas. She specialises in organisational design and executive coaching. Prior to co-founding AgileSherpas, Andrea spent over a decade in marketing as content strategist, content marketer, project manager, and editorial assistant for both brands and agencies. Once she discovered Agile ways of working, however, she dove in and has never looked back.
Andrea is one of the co-authors of the ICAgile Marketing Agility curriculum, as well as two books on marketing agility: *Mastering Marketing Agility* and *Death of a Marketer*.

**Jon Davidge:**
Jon Davidge moved from a career in publishing and media to train as an executive coach. He established and led the Leadership Trust’s coaching practice in 2005.  A few years later, he was made Head of Training & Development and served in that capacity until early 2017.
Jon was appointed as a Non-Executive Director in 2024 and recently served as Interim CEO. He remains one of the organisation’s course directors  and coaching supervisors.

**Kate Phelps**
With 15 years of non-profit experience, Kate heads the Digital Fundraising and Performance team at Sightsavers, an international development charity working to eliminate avoidable blindness and promote the rights of people with disabilities. Kate is a results-oriented leader, passionate about driving meaningful change and building and inspiring high-performing teams.
