What we’re about
Tired of Reading Theory Alone? You're Not the Only One.
Are you itching to dive into leftist theory but don't know where to start? Do you find yourself reading about capitalism, class, and a different future, but have no one to discuss it with?
You're not alone in your curiosity. So many of us feel the urge to understand the world on a deeper level and to imagine a radically different future, but doing it in isolation can be lonely and overwhelming.
That's why we're starting Marx in Parks, a new Seattle-based political book club.
We believe, as Angela Davis once said, that "I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change. I am changing the things I cannot accept." But we can't change them alone. Real understanding and power are built in community.
This is a casual, welcoming space for everyone whether you've never opened a book by Marx or you can debate different schools of socialist thought. We'll meet regularly to discuss foundational and contemporary texts, connect ideas to our current moment, and build a community of mutual support and intellectual curiosity.
Our goal is simple: to read the world, and then to change it. Together.
