Public Service Announcements: The hike is on!
DESCRIPTION: Explore this natural, 4-mile, modified loop trail in Sandy Spring, Maryland. Generally considered an easy-to-moderate route, it takes about 2 hours to complete. We'll move at an average pace of 2.5 miles per hour, and include a couple of breaks.
We'll experience:
- Wooded areas, open fields, a small stream (with bridge crossings), and a limited stretch of paved road
- Historic buildings on the Woodlawn Manor site
- Corralled horses used by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission
- Views of the original and current Sandy Spring Friends Meeting houses
- A quick stop at the Passion Bakery in Sandy Spring
Please note: You'll have time to take a few quick photos along the way if you'd like.
DEPARTURE: We'll start at 9:00AM; please allow ample travel and preparation time as we strive to be considerate of everyone's shared time.
CLOTHING: Weather-appropriate clothing and hiking shoes/boots are highly recommended. You may also wish to bring your hiking poles or walking stick. Bug spray is helpful this time of year :)
MEETING LOCATION: Please drive all the way to the back parking lot on the property. You'll pass a large stone barn on your left, a small welcome center on your right, and a few other structures. Should you need assistance, call or text Gina at 240-888-7451.
RSVP PROTOCOLS:
- Sign up if 100% you're serious about attending this hike. Spaces are limited and, when you cancel less than 48 hours in advance, you may keep other members from attending.
- Attend the hike if your RSVP is confirmed (we reserve the right to turn you away if your name is not listed on the "Going" tab).
- Change your RSVP to "Not Going" if you can no longer attend
MEMBER PROFILE PHOTOS:
To participate in our events, you must display a recent member photo on your profile.
ADDITIONAL ITEMS:
- Please refrain from moving ahead of the hike leader or falling too far behind, as we're unable to move at your pace or provide directions
- If you find the hike pace unworkable, please feel free to separate from the group and continue on your own
- Most of all, we look forward to hiking together!
