Start/Finish: Darnall’s Chance House Museum 14800 Governor Oden Bowie Drive Upper Marlboro, MD 20772
Times: Start time anytime between 9 AM and Noon, Finish by 3:00 PM Trail Description/ Distance: Explore historic Upper Marlboro – originally settled in 1695. Visit the gravesite of William Beanes and learn about his connection to “The Star-Spangled Banner”. Both the 5 and 10 KM trails consist mainly of city streets, park paths, a boardwalk around Schoolhouse Pond, and some gravel and natural surfaces. Eligibility: These walks are open to the public. Registration/Fees: The fee for IVV Credit or Non- IVV Credit is $4.00. Children 12 and under (IVV- Credit included) walk for free courtesy of Freestate Happy Wanderers. The same trail may be walked for credit twice on the same start card on the same day with no extra charge. Procedure: Each participant must register at the start and fill out a start card to be carried on the walk and presented at each checkpoint. Participants must turn in start cards at the Finish Table after completing the event. Conditions: Littering along the trails is prohibited. Prince George’s County law requires that all pets be leashed.
Directions:
From the Capital Beltway (I-495), take Exit 11A, Pennsylvania Avenue, South (Route 4). Follow Route 4 seven miles and exit at Upper Marlboro. At the end of the exit ramp, turn left onto Water Street. Go through the first light (Main Street). Proceed past the County Administration Building (right) and Schoolhouse Pond (left). Darnall’s Chance is the first driveway on the left after Schoolhouse Pond.
| Before or after your walk, take a self- guided tour of Darnall’s Chance House Museum. Docents will be available to answer questions about the Georgian mansion built in 1742, and museum admission is free for registered walkers.

From Route 301 (south or north) take the entrance ramp to Maryland Route 4, North to Washington, D.C. Take the first exit, Upper Marlboro/Equestrian Center/Showplace Arena. Turn right at the bottom of the ramp onto Water Stree. Go thru the first light (Main Street). Proceed past the County Administration Bldg. (right) and Schoolhouse Pond (left).
