Description of the tracks (road, landscape) On Friday, experience Arlington Virginia hospitality with a Welcome Walk west of the Potomac River. To include Arlington National Cemetery. Friday's trails are 5 and 10 km long (3 / 6 miles). Arlington was recognized as a Gold-level Walk Friendly Community in 2011, the inaugural year of the Walk Friendly Communities program, Arlington was re-designated at the Gold Level for a second five-year term in 2016.
Saturday's 6/12/21/44 km ( 3 / 6 / 12 / 27 mile) walks go by the memorials, the National Mall, the Tidal Basin, all three branches of the federal government and Arlington Cemetery. The 44 km ultra marathon travels around some of the best trails in Arlington after visiting the downtown DC and memorials to include the Pentagon. The trails are all paved sidewalks and park paths.
Sunday's 6/12/21/32 km ( 3 / 6 / 12 / 18 mile) walks to the National Parks depending on the distance selected by the participants. The trail is paved sidewalk, paved path, and dirt paths in the National Park.
All trails are primarily on sidewalks with occasional natural surfaces and may be difficult for strollers and wheelchairs due to local differences in accessibility. Alternate routes are available on some trails.
Entertainment
There is an international mixer on Friday evening and an International dinner is served on Saturday evening of the event.
Weather
Mostly sunny with temperatures in 70's to 80's (degree F). The autumn leaves will be near their peak colors of oranges, reds, and golds. Souvenir - award Everyone walks the for "Freedom Walk Medal" and certificate. 20K, 32K, or 42K. There is a special patch for completing the Saturday 44 km trail. There are special pins for the medal for completing IML distance requirements.
Transport
- by flight: Arrive at Ronald Regan-Washington National Airport (5 km away) or at Washington Dulles International (40 km away). Both have easy access to the hotels at Arlington, Virginia.
- by train: Arrive at the Union Station stop in downtown Washington, DC and take the METRO subway to the starting location (Rosslyn METRO stop)
- by car: Drive to Arlington, VA via Interstate routes 66 and 95 which both go to Washington, DC. Accommodation
