Transfer Learning for Computer Vision and NLP + Machine Learning Engineering

Transfer Learning for Computer Vision and NLP + Machine Learning Engineering

Details

The December 2019 meetup features Robert Holder from Miner & Kasch speaking on Machine Learning Engineering and then Changrong Ji, an Enterprise Architect at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, will speak on Transfer Learning with a Transformer DNN Architecture.

Doors will open at 6 pm for networking and refreshments courtesy of sponsor Miner & Kasch, and our program will start at 6:30 pm.

Robert Holder, Ph.D., is a data scientist at Miner & Kasch where he
has implemented machine learning and cloud solutions for a variety of clients. His talk will briefly discuss Machine Learning as a Service (MLaaS) as a quick entry into building machine learning models.

Changrong Ji's talk: Transfer Learning (TL) leverages machine learning models pre-trained on a domain to jump start the development of models in related domains. It underlies many innovations in computer vision since mid 2010s. Recent breakthroughs in TL and related techniques using Transformer deep neural net language models are propelling Natural Language Processing into a golden era. On the other hand, adoption of TL and deep learning in structured data prevalent in business domains such as Healthcare is still nascent. This talk starts with an overview of TL, demos in computer vision and NLP, followed by work-in-progess in processing structured business data in retail and health insurance. The preliminary promising results point to intriguing opportunities.

Changrong Ji is an enterprise architect at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield where she leads Machine Learning explorations, and collaborates with peers within the national BlueCross BlueShield network to further AI adoption in healthcare and beyond.

Miner & Kasch is sponsoring the meetup. Thanks!
