What we’re about
We're a friendly, inclusive hiking group. Most of our hikes are in Central Maryland, within 20 minutes of I-695. We have hikes for beginners, which are around 4 miles, and easy terrain. We also have weekly hikes that are moderate or strenuous for more experienced hikers. The hikes will be labeled as "easy" (mainly flat, walking), "moderate" (a mix of some hills and flat trail) or "strenuous/difficult" (steep hills or rock scrambling).
Other activities might be camping, kayaking, sailing, climbing, and winter activities like bowling, dancing...any suggestions??
To request membership, in your primary Meetup profile you will need to use your actual name including last name or initial, and post a recognizable headshot photo. Please make needed changes to your Meetup profile before applying! Thanks, Tim

Susquehanna State Park - Rock Run Grist Mill Loop - Moderate ~7 miles
Rock Run Gristmill, Stafford Roaf, Havre De Grace, MD, USJoin me for a very rewarding, moderate hike in the beautiful Susquehanna State Park. Rolling hills, dense forests, open fields, river views, and streams... We'll start and finish at the historic Rock Run Gristmill. Saturday's forecast looks good - cold but sunny - we’ll warm up quickly as we hike!
Optional lunch afterward at La Cucina in Havre de Grace. They get good Google reviews, but I haven’t tried it yet—other suggestions welcome.
Meeting time & location: 10:00 at Rock Run Gristmill, 761 Stafford Rd, Havre de Grace, MD 21078. (The Meetup map location is incorrect - a glitch that I'm struggling to fix!)
Distance: ~7 miles
Elevation gain: ~1000 ft
Pace: Moderate (around 2.7 mph), slower on the climbs. We’ll take regular breaks and one longer stop at the campground, where restrooms are available.
There are two small stream crossings that can be tricky - I recommend waterproof boots (or solid gaiters/plastic bags). Because of muddy and potentially icy conditions, hiking poles are a good idea if you have them.
What to bring:
- Plenty of water (and a snack, if you’d like)
- Sturdy hiking boots or shoes - waterproof recommended
- Hiking poles, if you use them
Dogs are welcome! Please let me know in the comments if you’re bringing a dog. Dogs must be able to keep pace, stay leashed, and be well-hydrated throughout the hike.
History: Rock Run Gristmill is a flour mill built around 1800 by John Stump III. The mill's 12-ton wheel rotates by means of belts, pulleys, gears, and buckets of water to grind grain. The grinding process was only performed during the day because the flour dust could combust if it came into contact with the flame of a candle. The mill housed a post office on the second floor from 1827 to 1856, and was frequently used as a communal market. Here is a link to a self-guided walking tour.
Cancellation: If the hike needs to be cancelled, I’ll post an update in the comments the evening before.
