Pot Spring to Warren Loop Hike (8-9 miles)
Details
Let's enjoy the (technical) last day of Spring with an extended version of the loop we did a couple of weeks ago, and go all the way out to Warren Road. We will begin at the end of Pot Spring Road like last time, take the orange trail across the power lines and back into the woods. This time we will turn left (instead of right) and continue until we reach Warren Road and then loop back around. We will take a snack and/or lunch break at a very cool "bouldery" (is that a word?) creek with a little waterfall that even has a big swing you can enjoy. On the way back, once we cross the power lines and head down toward the water, we will go on the "fisherman's trail" most of the way (instead of the fire trail) which follows the reservoir. There is about 800-900 feet elevation gain total for this hike. We will shoot for a comfortable pace of 2.5-2.75 mph. We can stop at the Merryman cemetary again if we have a lot of new hikers who have not seen it before.
The hike will be on a combo of wider fire trails, and single track trails. It is summer, which means the potential for overgrown sections of the trail (I always have my clippers with me if needed). If you do not like the feeling of plants brushing against bare legs for some of the hike I suggest you wear pants :-)
At the end of the hike we will take a short little spur trail and follow the creek down to the reservoir and relax for a few minutes like last time. There is a pretty little waterfall and if you are so inclined to take a dunk in the small swimming hole, have at it!
There will be rocks, roots, a stream crossing or two, a few fallen logs/trees to climb over. Please wear appropriate footwear/clothing, and bring PLENTY OF WATER.
