Are We Building Plato’s Ideal City?

Details

March's topic will be conducted by Bro. Danielle Slack in a study of Freemasonry discussing the question: "Are We Building Plato’s Ideal City?"

Synopsis:
This presentation delves into The Republic by Plato, a cornerstone of Western philosophy that explores justice, governance, and the nature of the ideal society. By examining the dialogues between Socrates and his interlocutors, we’ll uncover the principles of the just city, the philosopher-king, and the tripartite soul. Through this exploration, we aim to connect Plato’s vision of harmony and order to modern questions about morality, leadership, and the pursuit of the common good.

Mission Statement:
The Masonic Philosophical Society embraces the concept of learning, not for school, but for life, and believes that all men, who seek it, deserve access to continued education. We further embrace the concept of a community environment where ideas can be shared and debated in an open forum. From the seven liberal arts to the arcane, we seek to gain and share the knowledge that is the legacy of mankind.
