MAnalyt meetup at Massey University (Albany campus)

Dear members,

I'm excited to invite you all to our next meetup scheduled at 5.30pm on 27th April, 2023. This meetup will be held at the Albany campus, providing alumni with an opportunity to return to the classroom and mingle with the current students. We will also get a chance to check out the new Massey Innovation Complex building, which has replaced an old car park next to the QA building. A photo of the new building has been attached.

This meetup will also offer current students the chance to ask previous students questions about stream selection in Semester 2 and practical projects, as well as intern interviews.

More importantly, we are pleased to confirm the attendance of two amazing guest speakers.

• Dr. Adnan Balloch, a senior lecturer in Financial Economics at Massey University.
  Some of you may recognise him as one of our lecturers for the Applied Econometrics Methods course. Adnan has been working at Massey since 2018 and has previously held positions at Aberystwyth University and Deloitte. Adnan will talk about the significance of business data storytelling and data analytics and in today's world, especially with the rise of AI tools like chatGpt. He will also discuss where chatGpt can fall short and how we can work together with AI tools to achieve great results.

• Samuel Yap-Choong, the General Manager of Data and Analytics at MBM, one of the leading marketing agencies in New Zealand.
  Sam is a distinguished Massey alumnus who has studied some of the same courses as our Master of Analytics students. He has worked in various leading data-related roles, including as Head of Data and Web Development at Hype & Dexter and as the Global Data & Analytics lead at Zuru Toys. Sam will share his experiences and the skills he has acquired throughout his career, including how to explain data science to business stakeholders and persuade them to adopt data applications.

Please continue to attend our meetups and keep the momentum going. Pizza and water will be provided at the event, and we'd like to express our appreciation to Massey University and Daniel Parker for helping us arrange the venue and refreshments.
