SPORTS ANALYTICS: THE DATA BEHIND THE GAME

Details

Data is involved in nearly every aspect of the sports industry today. From wearable technology to analytics-driven recruiting services, athletes, coaches and teams all use data to improve their game.

Overview: At this panel event, join GA as we host leaders in the sports and analytics field as we discuss the growing importance of data. No matter the sport, data-driven analytics can inform how the success of a sport, the type of moves that should be made, and can help gain a greater understanding of where sports, and the way in which they are played, are heading.

*Casey Burnham
Director of Business Analytics, Boston Bruins

I'm currently the Director of Business Analytics for the Boston Bruins and my team is responsible for all of the ticket pricing, inventory management and revenue projections related to the Bruins organizations. We deliver strategic analytics such as retention models to predict accounts that will renew/not renew their season tickets, targeting models to ensure our emails go to the best leads and have migrated all of our reporting from Excel to Tableau over the last two years. Prior to working for the Bruins, I was a consultant for six years at ZS Associates, a firm focused on sales and marketing in the pharmaceutical industry. My last role with ZS was building an on-site forecasting team for Bristol Myers Squibb in NJ, though prior to that I worked on a variety of projects encompassing incentive compensation, qualitative/quantitative market research, sales force design, and territory alignment. My educational background is a Bachelor's of Industrial Engineering from RPI. Outside of work, I've lived in Cambridge for the past seven years and am an active concert goer and volleyball player. I also currently serving on New England's Regional Volleyball Association's Adult Executive Board as the secretary.
