For this meeting, we're going through Chapter 9 (text here (http://www.deeplearningbook.org/contents/convnets.html)), about convolutional neural networks! These have blown through previous machine learning benchmarks and have found a solid place as state-of-the-art image processing technology. They're great for object recognition, computer art, and other cool application.

I'll post some practice problems (bring pen and paper!) and coding problems (bring your laptops!) before the meeting, and we can work through them together as we review the material!

We've started a slack group for general discussion about the group, and particular discussion around this book. Message me your email address, and I'll add you!

Meeting Format:

We're a discussion group, so there generally won't be a lecture. We'll get together at tables, and work through the problems and discuss the material with our peers. The hope is that we can all help each other through the material, so we can learn more as a group than we can individually!

General Notes:

We're reading Deep Learning, which you can find here

https://www.amazon.com/Deep-Learning-Adaptive-Computation-Machine/dp/0262035618/

or online at

www.deeplearningbook.org (http://www.deeplearningbook.org/)

Do read the material before the meeting, but it's okay if you don't understand all of it! If you get stuck somewhere, make a note of where. It's likely others got stuck in the same place! Try to push through and understand as much of the rest of the material as possible. We'll try to get everyone on the same page at the meeting!

Logistical Notes:

• You can arrive as early as 6:30 to hang out and chat before the meetup starts (if you have technical problems installing tensorflow or keras, show up early!)

• Be sure to bring ID for security!

• There will be signs upstairs ("Math Meetup") directing you to the room.
