Quick Talks about Big Data and Open Data

Details

Hi craftsmen, it's time for another monthly topic-related meetup. This month, we are looking into two interesting and upcoming fields in IT: Big Data and Open Data.

Big Data analytics, an introduction - Ajmal

As you know, Big Data is a huge subject and I will focus on the analytics part. I will give the "raison-d'etre" of big data beforehand, how it came about and in what ways companies or scientific labs are using it. I will then go on and explain the characteristics of Big Data, how is it different, and then focus more on the tools and techniques being used to analyse big data. Finally I will take some time to exchange with the audience about where I can see future trends as well as the challenges/risks associated with it. This can open up or pave the way into your next topic which is "Open data".

Mauritius, Open Data Paradise - Dan

Imagine if the Government of Mauritius suddenly decided to open up all it's data.

• What would happen?

• What projects would be built?

What would change?

Explore the unlikely world of Open Mauritius Data.

Open Data in Mauritius - various

The Ministry of TCI recently organised several workshops together with a team of representatives of the World Bank. Several craftsmen of the MSCC, LUGM and MIU have attended, and during today's session we would like to share our observations and hopefully can create some more awareness among our members for a future visit of the World Bank delegation in September/October.

Networking and Q&A

As usual, bring your laptops, code snippets, project issues and let's put our heads together to share experience and knowledge.
