Great meeting if you are looking to be a professional speaker, improve your impromptu speaking abilities at work, be a more confident social speaker, just improve your speaking ability in general, or would like to overcome the #1 fear in the world-speaking in front of other people.

Our members joined Maverick Toastmasters in Mesa for a variety of reasons and the weekly meetings assist all our members and guest become more prolific speakers for whatever your personal reasons are, in a fun supportive environment surrounded by like-minded people.
We do have a lot of fun, but at the same time, we follow a set agenda and support each other through constructive feedback so we all may improve our speaking abilities.

An overview of our dynamic Toastmaster meeting in Mesa is as follows:

6:40 - 7:00 pm: Meet and Greet
7:00 - 8:30 pm: Club meeting: This is where the magic happens.

The Maverick Toastmaster meeting has 5 basic sections. The core skills practiced during each section are in parentheses.

Opening (Leadership)
The presiding officer opens the meeting by greeting everyone, especially the guests.
The meeting's emcee, the Toastmaster, introduces the meeting's "functionaries" - individuals with various roles and responsibilities tailored to help members improve on specific aspects of communication and leadership.

Prepared/Formal Speeches (Prepared Speech Presentation)
Members work on projects with specific objectives. This is of the best parts of the meeting. Members joined Maverick Toastmasters for many reasons, it could be to overcome the fear of public speaking, become a professional speaker, move up the corporate ladder, or just become a more prolific speaker. These prepared speeches stretch progressively stretch our speaking abilities in a safe constructive environment. We have seen members go from almost passing out when they got in front of the group when they first joined, to unbelievable speakers in just a few short months.

Table Topics (Impromptu Speaking)
The “Table Topics Master” asks open-ended questions based on a meeting theme or subject and calls on members at random to answer these questions. No preparation time is given to answer these questions. This exercise helps you improve the ability to think on your feet, quickly organize your thoughts, and respond coherently with no preparation. The exercise is particularly helpful in situations such as job interviews, social settings, and last-minute presentation assignments from the boss. Probably the funniest part of the meeting.

Feedback (Evaluation, Impromptu Speaking, Leadership)
Preassigned evaluators - one per formal speaker - provide specific feedback on the prepared speeches. Evaluators will comment on such things as how well the speaker met the project objectives, opinion on what the speaker did well and issue challenges for improvement. Speech evaluations are valuable not only for the speaker specifically but generally for the audience as well as ideas and tips are gleaned from these evaluations. The feedback techniques learned in this section can be applied in many people’s daily activities-especially work.

Closing (Leadership)
The presiding officer will facilitate the completion of any club business, solicitation of guest feedback, and more before adjourning the meeting.

Please note: Meetup RSVPs do not reflect actual attendance; we typically have about 10 to 25 people in attendance.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us and we will be more than happy to assist you at info@mavericktm.org.
