Half-Day Ski Outing at Sugar Mountain
Details
Join us for a Half-Day Ski Outing at Sugar Mountain !
Hello everyone,
It’s time to hit the slopes! We are organizing a group trip to
Sugar Mountain Resort for a half-day of skiing and riding. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a total "never-ever," we’d love for you to join us on the mountain.
Getting There
Sugar is a perfect day-trip destination! Expect a scenic two-hour drive from Winston-Salem or a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Charlotte.
Event Details
• Date: Tuesday, February 3, 2026
• Meeting Time: 11:30 AM (Giving us time to gear up before half-day tickets start!)
• Meeting Location: Locker Area of the Base Lodge
Projected Weather & Conditions
• Weather: Expect crisp, winter conditions with a high of 30°F and a low of 6°F. The day is forecast to be partly sunny with light winds around 7 mph—perfect for staying comfortable on the lifts.
• Ski Conditions: Conditions should be excellent following a significant winter storm over the weekend that is expected to bring 2 to 7 inches of fresh snow to the area.
• Snowmaking: Sugar is known for aggressive snowmaking; if natural snow is light, they typically run their massive system of SMI snow machines to ensure quality coverage across their 125 acres of terrain.
Why Sugar Mountain?
As the largest ski area in North Carolina,
Sugar Mountain offers the state’s most impressive vertical drop (1,200 ft!). It’s a premier learning destination because of its dedicated beginner terrain. Newcomers can build confidence on "Easy Street," a wide, gentle run with its own chairlift, or use the "Magic Carpet" to practice the basics without any stress.
Estimated Costs
• Half-Day Lift Ticket: $51 (Adults 12+). Valid from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM.
• Equipment Rental: $30. Includes skis, boots, and poles (or snowboard/boots).
• Group Lessons: $44 for a 1.5-hour session. (Note: Lift ticket not included).
• Lockers: Range from $8 (Small) to $37 (Full-sized). You can leave shoes under benches at your own risk, but lockers or backpacks are best for valuables.
What to Bring
Dress in waterproof layers—even on sunny days, Sugar's massive snowmaking system can be active! Feel free to bring a backpack for extra gear, which can be stored in the lodge. Snacks and water bottle. Extra change of clothes in car if needed.
Après Ski & Dinner in Blowing Rock
After we wrap up on the slopes at 4:00 PM, we can head to the charming nearby town of Blowing Rock (about a 30 minute drive) for dinner and/or just drinks at the Town Tavern, 1182 Main Street Blowing Rock on the way back to Charlotte and Winston Salem. A casual American sports bar and grill that can accommodate large groups and is known for its lively atmosphere and large patio. They serve food and drinks late. I plan to have lite snacks on the slope for Lunch and grab a burger here after.
Note: this is a cross meetup and FB event, several groups are coming. We encourage Car Pooling. Express your interest to ride or be a driver.
