About us
Following text taken from the Mayfield Park website:
Mayfield Park is a place for all, whether you want to relax, play, or explore.
A public 6.5-acre park, with 142 trees, 120,000 shrubs and plants. The park features a kids’ play yard with 6 slides woven around the newly daylighted River Medlock – one of Manchester’s founding rivers.
Group Summary
City Centre based low level walking group using Mayfield Park as a base.
Further information
I was inspired to start this group through:
- Getting older
- Having struggles with my Mental Health
- The feeling of isolation I get from modern life
If you can empathise with any of the above - please come along to the walks!
If you can't empathise with any of the above - please come along to the walks!
Two songs that have inspired me to start the group are:
and
Raye (feat. Hans Zimmer) - Click Clack Symphony
The first song focuses on loneliness in aging but, in my opinion, the sentiment can be applied to all of us.
The second is very much about having a support system in place to get you 'out of the house'; if you are in a place where you can do so!
Hosts
The Mayfield Mooch is open to everyone. I am looking for co-hosts to make people feel welcome at the walks - please drop me a direct message if you are interested in hosting.
Walking Talking Topics
Each walk will have a 'Walking Talking Topic' - a conversation starter that can also get the chat going online before we meet.
Things to know before joining The Mayfield Mooch
- The Mayfield Mooch is in no way affiliated to Mayfield Park.
- Walks are undertaken at your own risk.
- We will take pictures at events - if you do not wish to be included in any pictures please let one of the hosts (identifiable by their 'Hello, my name is' badge) know.
- Smoking / vaping / consumption of alcohol is not allowed in Mayfield Park.
- Well behaved dogs are welcome at Mayfield Park.
- On-site toilet facilities are available.
NB This is a sober event; please arrive and leave Mayfield Park sober. I am not the fun police; feel free to have a pint (I love a pint!) once the event has concluded. At the same time please respect the rules of the event, the park and any event participants that may be in recovery.
Do I have to talk?
No. Do what's right for you. I am very much a person who has good days and bad days. On a bad day I might want to be around people but not necessarily talk. Each walk will have a nominated host who will be available for a quiet walk.
Questions?
Ask away on the discussion board or the event pages.
