8-17 Oct (5 sessions) FOUNDATIONAL TECHNIQUE: Click here for the direct site with details. This first camp of two will slowly but surely teach you the basic skills in the Viennese Waltz to prepare you for this incredible experience, with a series of advancing lessons. You will learn basics of social Waltzing along with some elements of Smooth and Standard! By the end, you will have developed skills that will give you basic skills for any Viennese Waltz setting, and you will also make a lot of dance friends while doing so.

1. Thu, 8 Oct, 730-900 pm: Fundamentals of Viennese Waltz, basics, intro to dance etiquette, simple left turns, whisks w/ladies turn, practice.
2. Fri, 9 Oct, 730-1000 pm: Practice, Review, basic combos, progressive basic, Patty-cake, simple right turns, Polka basics, Camp Choreography.
3. Sat, 10 Oct, 3-6 pm (potluck snack day): This is a good long session, so bring healthy snacks for yourself, or even better for the group! Practice, Review, simple left and right turns. Camp choreography. Begin The Laendler as seen in the Sound of Music. The session concludes with learning the Fledermaus Quadrille #6
4. Thu, 15 Oct, 730-9 pm: Practice, warm-up. Introduction of reverse turn (International style left turn), navigation drill. If the difference in level in class is quite large, we may break into two classes with an intermediate group pressing to more difficult maneuvers while beginners review.
4. Sat, 17 Oct, 2-345 pm (potluck snack day): Practice, warm-up. Full Camp review. Intermediates will join at this time and welcome new waltzers. At 345, we will take a break for snacks and talk about Viennese Balls, Vienna and the DC scene, social etiquette, apparel and more! At 415, the beginner camp concludes.

## CAMP 2 (Higher level maneuvering and technique)

6. Sat, 17 Oct, 2-345 pm & 415-6 pm (2 sessions with break in between) (potluck snack day): We will do a review of the first camp from 2-345. At 345, we will take a break for snacks and talk about Viennese Balls, Vienna and the DC scene, social etiquette, apparel and more! At 415, the second session of the day, intermediates remain to work on the following: Delving deeper into Natural and Reverse Turn techniques. Creative transitions from Reverse Turn to Natural Turn and back (whisk, etc . .). Hook turn (Laendler). Camp Choreography— The Laendler as seen in the Sound of Music.
7. Sun, 18 Oct, 1-230 pm: Practice, Review, Hook turn (Laendler), closed changes from left to right and right to left, fifth position break, run around. Camp Choreography. Fledermaus Quadrille #6 and polka
8. Tue 20 Oct, 730-9 pm: Practice, Review, Advanced Navigational skills. Musicality, musicality, musicality! Camp Choreography.
8. Thu, 22 Oct, 730-9 pm: Practice, Review, American Smooth figures. Camp Choreography.
Sat, 24 Oct 830-1145 pm: Harvest Moon Ball! (NOT INCLUDED) After the camp, experience the Spanish Ballroom at Glen Echo, the largest dance floor in the DC metro area, for an evening dancing to fine Strauss music!
