The Cyber Meetup, hosted by Capital One returns for 2020! (woot!)

Please join us in our McLean 1 lobby; room 100A on Wednesday January 15 for our resumption of bi-monthly cyber themed meetups.

Important - As alcohol will be available at this event, this is an age-restricted meetup. You must be 21 or over to attend. Unfortunately, we are unable to extend invitations to individuals below legal drinking age.

AGENDA --
18:00 - Doors open to the public
19:00 - Welcome and first talk
19:50 - Pizza
20:10 - Second talk
21:00 - final scraps of food/beer; transition of networking over to the newly opened City Works brew pub, street level, Capital One Tower.

SPEAKERS --

Our first speaker will be Marita Fowler, who will discuss mobile malware.

Marita Fowler is a PenTester for Truist (formerly known as SunTrust). Her work experience includes cybersecurity analyst roles within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Department of Defense (DoD), and financial sector.

Our second speaker will be TJ Null (aka "Tony".) Tony is pentester in the private sector and is the community manager for Offensive Security. On his spare time he coaches one of the top Community College Cyber team in the state of Maryland. He earned a BS in Cybersecurity from University of Maryland University College (UMUC) where he is a board member for the award winning UMUC Cyber Padawans. Over the years he has participated in over 230 Cyber Security competitions across the globe and is a 2-time SANS Netwars Champion. Tony is also a moderator of NetSec Focus an online Information Security community.

Talk - Preparing to earn your OSCP

Synopsis: The Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP) is one of the most well-recognized and respected certifications in the security industry. In order to become certified, students must complete Offensive Security’s Penetration Testing with Kali Linux (PwK) course and pass the 24-hour hands-on exam. For people that are interested to learn more about this course and how to prepare for it then this talk is for them. During the talk students will be provided resources and tips to prepare for the course. As for the exam, Offensive Security has launched a proctoring program for the OSCP leaving many questions for students on how to prepare for the exam. Guidance will also be provided on how the proctoring part of the exam works and how people should prepare for it.

CapitalOne Associates - If you are a Capital One Associate, please register your interest in this meetup by contacting Ian Poulin, internally; rather than signing up via meetup.com. An internal sign-up system will be setup for Associates.

PARKING --
Parking Information - Security requirements are changing; and access to our parking garage at 1680 Capital One Drive may be restricted in the future. However, for this event, it should be accessible. Please note, due to construction interference, the left turn onto the garage access road may be restricted when entering the property from Dolly Madison Bvld, requiring you to route forward, around the rotary at our 1680 office location and route back around construction to access the garage space.

Our McLean2 Tower garage is open only to Capital One Associates who work in that building.

There are two local paid parking options - a relatively expensive surface lot next to our 33 story (McLean 2) HQ tower, and a relatively inexpensive surface lot run at the McLean METRO station.

Speaker Submission - While we are actively engaged with speakers we feel would provide beneficial presentations to the community, we want these meetups to be (to misquote our 16th President,) "of the community, by the community, for the community." If you are enthusiastic about your Cyber Security area of interest or expertise and would be willing to stand up in front of one hundred of your newest close friends, reach out to Ian Poulin at ian.poulin@capitalone.com - and please include [McLean Meetup Speaker Registration] in your subject line.
