Climate Politics in DC - The Campaign for a DC Carbon Fee & Rebate Law
Camilla Thorndike of the Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) will give a presentation on the proposed DC Carbon Fee & Rebate legislation supported by a number of local environmental groups, and which has been modified from the original draft in order to minimize costs to local low-income residents and communities of color. Metro DC DSA has not yet endorsed the bill, and this committee meeting will feature a discussion on whether we should, and if so, what we can do to support it.
Other details of this meeting are unavailable at the moment, mostly due to my problems with the Internet. Accordingly, the details of this Meetup notice should change somewhat before the meeting.
NOTE to Maryland activists -- We may also discuss ways in which DSA members can support the campaigns of several socialists, endorsed by our chapter who are running for positions on the Montgomery County Council in the Democratic primary. The positions of two of them are particularly good on climate change. However, for right now they've not committed to talking to this committee meeting, due to possible scheduling conflicts. -- Andy Feeney, for the CC&EJC committee
