What we’re about

Welcome to the Meaningful Conversations - Brighton & Hove group! This is a group for anyone that enjoys genuine, meaningful and fun conversations and would like to make new friends.

***Once we reach over 50 members, I’ll start setting up some events :)***

Where will the events be based?

The events will be based in various locations. In spring and summer, Queen’s Park, Hove Park and even the beach will be likely options. In the autumn/winter, we’ll hire out rooms in cafe’s, cosy pubs or anywhere that has a nice vibe.

What will the events be like?

In summer, I’ll be bringing sets of fun conversation cards, games, picnic blankets, snacks, a speaker and everyone will be put into groups of 4-5, each with their own set of cards to get the conversations started. The conversation cards are designed to help make conversation easy and start meaningful, deep conversations. I’ve used them lots of times before, they’re great. Every 45 minutes or so, I’ll rotate the groups so you have the chance to meet new people :)

What can I expect when I turn up?

When you turn up I’ll be there to welcome you and once you’re ready, I’ll help you find a group to join. I’ll be joining the group conversations too, so you can always come over during the event if you have any questions or concerns.

Who is welcome to these events?

Everyone. I care deeply about diversity and inclusion, as well as neurodiversity and LGBTQ+ equality. Beyond that, everyone regardless of age, gender, race is of course welcome. There is a zero tolerance policy for any discrimination - if anyone does display this kind of behaviour they will be asked to leave.

What if a conversation topic triggers me?

If there are any topics that trigger you or that you’d like to avoid, I’d recommend letting people know so that you can help avoid the topics together. Everyone will be expected to be respectful and kind, so this should not be an issue. If it is, come and speak to me.

A culture of safety:

Maintaining a feeling of safety, kindness and comfort is very important to me, so if you feel like someone is making you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, please let me know.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes! Absolutely. Just make sure they’re well trained, particularly around people that might be shy. It’s also important that they’re comfortable socialising with other dogs, in case other people bring their dogs to the events. If a pet does display any concerning behaviour or cause distress to other people, the owner and pet will unfortunately be asked to leave.

How long will the events last?

The events will last for 3 hours. I appreciate everybody has different social batteries, so there is no pressure to join for the whole time. Do what suits you.

A bit about me:

I’m Ali, I’m 28 and work for a pet health company in London. I’m in the People Team and work in Learning & Development, helping to coach other people and create training courses around emotional intelligence.

Connection is really important to me and I’ve always loved the idea of setting up events that help people make new friends, especially people that care about emotional intelligence and meaningful conversations.

I’m also neurodiverse - I have a diagnosis of adhd and likely have autism too. So if you are neurodiverse then hopefully you can feel safe knowing there’s at least one other neurodiverse person at the events :) If you have any accommodations that need to be made to help you feel comfortable please let me know.

In my spare time I like to paint, write music, go to the gym and hang out with my friends at the beach. I generally love anything creative or nerdy.

Thank you for joining this group and I’m looking forward to meeting you soon!
