A World of Fairness: Achievable or Impossible?
Details
"That's not fair!" | "Why did he/she get promoted and I didn't?!" | "Why do criminals get off so easily?"
These are just some common notions of unfairness.
They say that life is not fair and that's correct.
However, when does unfairness go too far and what are the consequences for an unchecked unfair society?
It is my belief that what most people want for the sake of fairness is in direct conflict with reality. The greatest example is that most seek fairness in equality but there nothing that's equal except the fact we will all die one day and decompose the same way. Another example is human nature itself. While you can argue that pushing empathy for your fellow human being is right thing to do, but the bottom line is that people are far too easily to become selfish and jealous for a perfectly fair society to exist.
I argue that even supportive people have a limit on the notions of fairness, such as, even though they want to see their friends and colleagues become successful but secretly not wanting them to become more successful than themselves.
In tonight's meeting, let's discuss why so many people feel the need to chase a world of fairness.

Guidelines:
- If your name on Zoom does not match your Zoom name, you will be removed or not admitted.
- Hand raises are required. There are no limits on how many times you can raise your hand.
- There will be a 2-3 minute timer for every person depending the size of attendees. However, in this group, I do allow a brief back and fourth interjection from others if it's something that's related to the person who was just speaking. This is a way to prevent the group from feeling too "robotic" in style and get your pressing question asked to the speaker and get the answer right away without waiting all the way back to your turn again.
- Be authentic & civil!
- Please refrain from using Ad Hominem (personal) attacks. This includes in voice, in meeting chat, and in the comments section below. Instead, please attack the points from others. Severe Ad Hominem such as racist behavior will result in being removed from the meeting.
- Zoom link is posted well before the day of the meeting but you will not be able to join until 10 minutes before the meeting start time.
