The Impossible Choices Club: An Evening Of Hard Decisions
Details
Two hearts. Ten patients. One committee: you.
Imagine you're part of a team of doctors, and you have to decide which two of ten people get a new heart. Or imagine two family events that matter deeply to you, both on the same day, so someone is going to be disappointed. But who?
At this event, we'll step into these dilemmas together, in a room where nobody's life, money, future or relationship is actually on the line. 🫀
Why practice hard choices when nothing is at stake?
- You meet your own values. It's one thing to say you value fairness, loyalty, or compassion, and another to see which one you reach for when they pull in different directions.
- You hear how others reason. Two thoughtful people can look at the same dilemma and land in different places. Hearing why is often more interesting than the answer itself.
- Disagreement gets easier. Talking through tough choices with people who see them differently is a skill, and a friendly group is a good place to practice it.
- You can change your mind safely. Here, "I'm not sure" and "you've convinced me" are welcome.
What to expect
We'll split into small groups, tackle a few scenarios together, and then compare notes. There are no right answers and no one is graded. These are invented scenarios, so we're here to explore how we think, not to settle what's correct. You don't need any medical or philosophy background, just curiosity and a willingness to listen and consider carefully.
Come ready to think, debate kindly, and maybe surprise yourself!
The event will be held in the underground part of Élesztő (to the right upon entering the garden).
