Summary:
Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo (1958) centers on Scottie Ferguson, a former San Francisco detective who left the force after developing a debilitating fear of heights. An old acquaintance asks him to follow his wife, Madeleine, whose behavior has become increasingly strange and seemingly influenced by a mysterious past. As Scottie tracks her through the city, he becomes drawn into a complex emotional and psychological entanglement.
Blending suspense with a character study, the film explores themes of perception, obsession, identity, and the reliability of what we think we see. It’s widely regarded as one of Hitchcock’s most layered works, using its mystery framework to probe deeper questions about love, control, and illusion.
