Online Dating Trends & Alternatives Discussion

Details

Dating and Relationships Forum Session 5: Online Dating Trends & Alternatives.

Online dating seems like a great solution to the disappearance of social customs that brought couples together in the past. But it also creates imbalances that never existed before. Val will present theories about how this pans out for men and women of different levels of attractiveness (let's be real, choices on online dating are primarily based on gut reaction to photos) and explain these trends from the perspective of evolutionary psychology.

Presentation will be covering:

  • Why majority of men find it difficult to get matches, responses and dates.
  • Why many women struggle to find someone who is attractive AND doesn't have "commitment issues".
  • Types of people online dating can work for and types of people likely to encounter failure.
  • Strategies for avoiding bad experiences and emotional damage.
  • Viable modern alternatives to online dating - how to increase your chances of meeting someone organically.

The presentation will be followed by Q&A and a group discussion / debate on this topic. Next we’ll have a break with some snacks to nibble on (including dark chocolate!)

Second part of the event:

The Dating and Relationships Forum is an open group discussion forum for any questions related to dating and relationships.

  • Ask for tips or advice for a dating / relationship situation,
  • Ask for an honest opinion from the members of the opposite sex,
  • Discuss what baffles you in your dating or relationship experiences,
  • Be there for others to share your experience and insights,
  • Or simply listen and learn from others.

Afterparty:

We will keep the venue open until 9pm for those who are keen to socialise - it’s a great opportunity to hang out informally, continue the conversations and maybe even make some new connections.

Please note: this event series is focused primarily on dating and relationship dynamics between heterosexual men and women.
