Globalizing Ideas

Thanks to our growing community, we can debate big ideas with people all over the world... Simultaneously!!

https://ideas-exchange.info/en/

Join our global community of minds and share with people in different countries and from all backgrounds thorough our weekly online debates. Imagine debating with people in 10 different countries at the same time... How awesome is that?
This is a safe, inclusive and respectful space designed to talk to other humans, learn from one another and implement our ideas, in all relevant aspects of life.
We will discuss both “big” and “small” ideas, talking about the past, present, and future, the ideal world and our everyday reality.
Each Meetup will have a main focus subject, with a wide margin to explore other interesting topics.

Our main rule:
“I do not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”

Some subjects we’ll explore:

  • Human wellbeing and psychology
  • Relationships and family
  • Society, economics and politics
  • Lifestyles, cultures and languages
  • Technology and futurism
  • Philosophy, religions and ideologies
  • The “why” and “what for” of life

And many more, that we’ll decide on together…

Welcome to the global community of Ideas Exchange!

Freedom, democracy, power, inequality, Hollywood, guns, immigration, ambition, polarization, the American Dream… The United States is turning 250, and the question is not only how to celebrate, but whether celebration is still the right word.
For some, America remains one of history’s most extraordinary experiments: a country built on liberty, reinvention, opportunity, and the belief that people can shape their own future. For others, the promise feels increasingly strained by division, inequality, distrust, political chaos, and the sense that the American Dream no longer works the way it once did.
In this discussion, we’ll explore America at 250 years old: what it promised, what it became, what it still represents, and what the rest of the world sees when it looks at the United States today. Is America still a model, a warning, a superpower, a divided empire, an unfinished project, or all of these at once?
We’ll talk about democracy, freedom, power, culture, wealth, decline, soft power, global influence, and the complicated emotional place America occupies in the world. This won’t be a simple “pro-America vs. anti-America” debate, but a chance to ask a deeper question: what exactly are we celebrating when we celebrate America?
We’ll also bring in Alexis de Tocqueville, one of the most famous outsiders to ever try to understand the American experiment. Nearly two centuries ago, he saw both the genius and the danger of American democracy: its energy, ambition, equality, individualism, conformity, civic life, and restless belief in progress. If Tocqueville visited America today, what would he recognize, what would shock him, and what would he think he got wrong?
We’ll meet online, coffee or another drink in hand, and talk with other curious people trying to make sense of a country that still shapes the imagination, politics, culture, and anxieties of the entire world.
    Some topics we’ll touch on:
    • Whether America is still living up to its founding ideals
    • The American Dream: still alive, quietly dying, or changing shape
    • Why American democracy feels so fragile right now
    • Freedom, equality, safety, and what Americans seem most afraid of losing
    • Whether the U.S. is declining, gaining strength, or simply changing
    • America’s hard power: military, economy, technology, and global influence
    • America’s soft power: movies, music, brands, universities, social media, and cultural dominance
    • How the U.S. is viewed by the rest of the world, especially by Canadians and Mexicans
    • Why America can be both admired and resented at the same time
    • Tocqueville’s warnings about democracy, conformity, individualism, and “soft despotism”
    • Whether America’s divisions are uniquely dangerous or just uniquely visible
    • What America would need to renew, reform, or reinvent before its 300th birthday
    • And so much more!
By the end of the discussion, we’ll have explored a question that is bigger than one country’s birthday: is America still a dream worth believing in, a power the world cannot ignore, an unfinished promise, or a warning about what happens when a society loses faith in itself?
