BLUE WHALES at NC Museum of Science
Details
We will meet at 10am at the main entrance.
## About the Exhibition
Blue whales are BIG! How big are they? They can grow up to 110 feet long, weigh up to 400,000 pounds, and have a heart the size of a small car. Even their appetites are big: they can eat 16 tons of tiny krill in a single day. And their voices? Blue whale songs can travel 1,000 miles underwater.
Dive into the details behind their mind-blowing biology and discover how these mammals became and remain our planet’s largest animals ever.
- See a full-sized adult skeleton of a blue whale.
- Hear surround-sound whale calls, compare different whale songs and learn what they may be communicating.
- Play “License to Krill,” an exciting game of survival where you try to dodge dangerous obstacles and “dive deep” to capture and eat krill.
- Get your picture taken inside a full-scale model of a blue whale jaw.
- See the visual progression of how whales evolved from a 4-legged land mammal to an ocean giant and more.
