Overview
Whether you've been handed your first project or you're tired of watching deadlines slip, one thing holds true: projects don't run themselves. They need structure, clear communication, and a shared understanding of how the work gets done.
That's what Project Management Basics gives you. In two focused days, you'll build a practical foundation in project management, with no prior experience required.

Who Is This Course For?
You don't need "Project Manager" in your job title. This course is designed for:

  • Managers who want to lead work more effectively
  • Project team members who want to understand the bigger picture and contribute with confidence
  • Non-project managers working in project environments
  • Anyone starting out in project management, since this is an entry-level course

There are no prerequisites. If you work on projects in any capacity, you're ready.

Built on the PMBOK® Guide
The course draws on the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge® (PMBOK® Guide) – 5th Edition, so you learn theory, principles, techniques, and methods grounded in a widely recognized framework. You'll leave able to speak the language of project management and contribute meaningfully to projects.

Learn by Doing, Not Just Listening
Exercises throughout the course are based on a case study. You can work with one of three predefined cases, or bring in a customized case study from your own organization and practice on challenges that look like the ones you face at work.

What You'll Cover
Across 13 modules, you'll follow a project from its first spark to its final wrap-up:

  • The foundations: core definitions, the benefits of project management, the triple constraints and competing demands, and project life cycles
  • The people side: the roles of the project manager, sponsor, client, team, and other stakeholders
  • Starting strong: developing the project charter, assessing stakeholders, defining requirements, and establishing change control
  • Planning the work: building and using a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), managing risk, estimating duration and cost, and scheduling, including sequencing, dependencies, and the critical path
  • Making it happen: executing through effective communication, strong stakeholder relationships, and high-performing teams
  • Staying on track: monitoring and controlling with tools like earned value for schedule and cost
  • Finishing well: closing projects, handling transitions, and running post-project evaluations

Why It's Worth Your Two Days

  • Practical and approachable: it starts from the basics, with no jargon overload
  • Flexible delivery: attend in a classroom or virtually
  • Relevant practice: work with a predefined case study or one from your own organization
  • Take-home resources: you'll receive a course manual with presentation slides and reference materials
  • No exam pressure: there's no test, so you can focus on learning and applying
  • 16 credits: earned by completing the course, taught in English

The Bottom Line
Successful projects don't happen by accident. They come from people who understand how to plan, communicate, and adapt. Project Management Basics helps you become one of them, so you can operate efficiently in a project environment and help your projects succeed.
