What we’re about
What's the purpose of this group?
The purpose of this group is to help re-build general community, and particular relationships after the disruption of the pandemic. Many of us have felt the pain of loneliness and feeling disconnected. It can be hard and nerve-wracking to try something new, or make new friends! That's the purpose of this group -- to be an intentional Young Adult (about 18-28 years old) community for people who want to connect again. The community guidelines are respecting eachother and keeping the group safe for honest connection and conversation. We build this community around joy in doing events, eating, and generally living life together.
Who should join?
Anyone who is roughly 18-28 years old (if you're 29, we won't kick you out) looking to both receive and invest in community and relationships. You don't have to be a social butterfly (I sure am not!), local, new in town, or be "all put together." We are naturally imperfect and quirky. We want to be a place where you can be your best self. The only requirement is that you be roughly in the age range, and respect the safety of the group. For example, alcohol can be present, and we also ask that people respect those who are in sobriety recovery, or below 21 years old.
What will we do at our events?
Right now, the events are a smaller group (5-12). We do various activities, depending on the season. For example: Axe Throwing, Bowling, Escape Room, Board Game Night, Ice Skating, Bonfires, Hikes, Backpacking, Murder Mystery Night, and the like. These events are once a month, often on a Saturday. But, feel free to take the initiative to swap numbers, ask people to grab coffee (or whichever) in between monthly events. Consider this larger group a springboard for developing closer relationships. Often at these events, tickets are at a discounted cost, funded by Westminster Church to help support re-building community, relationships, and healthy connections after the pandemic. While the events are subsidized by Westminster Church, this group is for people of all backgrounds. The heart behind this is seeing the need for community, and hoping to help serve the community by re-building human connectedness and belonging. Discounted payments are collected by Dereck, the group facilitator.

What: a 2.5-3 hr whitewater rafting trip starting near Gold Hill. Orange Torpedo will be providing the guides. There will be class II's, III's, and even a couple Class IV's. While the rapids will be a bit more exciting, the rafts are quite large, and people who are less comfortable with rapids, can sit in the stable center of the raft. As long as you feel comfortable swimming, this trip is safe. Beginners welcome! If you want to find out more about this trip, check out their website here.

Why: The Surgeon General recently released a report saying that there is something of an "isolation" endemic. Isolation is known to have harmful physical and mental effects. Here is one way we hope to help re-build community after the pandemic together, for the good of our Medford community (: Plus, rafting is a good time.
