Join us for an engaging info session to learn about our upcoming 30-hour Civil Mediation Training and how you can get involved as a volunteer mediator with the Dispute Resolution Center (DRC). Whether you’re a legal professional, social worker, educator, or community member passionate about peaceful conflict resolution, this program will equip you with the tools to make a real difference meaningfully.

### What You’ll Learn

Empower individuals and communities to resolve conflicts with compassion, care, and collaboration. Through interactive exercises, demonstrations, and role plays, you’ll develop a solid foundation in mediation and negotiation techniques grounded in reflective listening and effective communication.
Key skills and tools covered include:

  • Understanding the principles and stages of mediation
  • Reflective listening and reframing to build trust and understanding
  • Identifying underlying interests and needs beneath positions
  • Managing emotions and power dynamics during conflict
  • Facilitating constructive dialogue between disputing parties
  • Applying negotiation and problem-solving frameworks
  • Drafting clear and balanced settlement agreements
  • Navigating ethical considerations and mediator neutrality
  • Using virtual mediation tools and online platforms effectively

Completion of this 30-hour course satisfies the Minnesota Rule 114 Civil Mediation requirements and qualifies participants to apply for inclusion on the Minnesota Supreme Court Civil Mediation Roster.
