Enlightenment, or total liberation from mental suffering is very difficult to achieve.
Instead of having unrealistic expectations, I believe it is better to lower the bar, and try for a goal of "generally fairly happy" at the onset of our quest for Truth. Once we attain that level, we can build on that to work on Wisdom and Equanimity.
A program including slow but constant progress is the best way to go.

I contend that such a program MUST include the following:

1. Simple life (Be content with less)
2. Healthy nutrition (Eliminate Sodas and artificial Sugar, Reduce Saturated Fats, Eat your Greens)
3. Regular exercise (At least two 1-hour sessions per week, correct your BMI)
4. Healthy rest routine (Have a stable sleep schedule of about 8 hrs)
5. Focus on Dharma (Live by the PATH, Avoid TV and hype, Read the Sutras, Meditate, enjoy calming music)

I invite everyone to work on #3: I exercise Sat and Sun 9:00 am till 11:00 am in Clermont!
